Dear SMPS Palmetto Members,
As we usher in the new year, I extend my warmest greetings to each of you. It is a pleasure to connect with a community of professionals driven by passion, excellence, and, of course, deadlines. With 2024 ahead of us, I am excited to share the exciting initiatives and adventures that SMPS Palmetto is working towards.
Even though it’s the start of 2024, this feels like a mid-year checkup for our board. SMPS Palmetto’s calendar year begins in September, so February is equivalent to the final month of our second quarter. A perfect time to review the goals we set, check in with our members, and continue to find programs that fulfill our mission and bring people in the AEC industry together.
We set a comprehensive set of goals aimed at fostering a more dynamic and engaged community within our chapter.
-
We recognize the importance of accessibility and want to respect those who work from home primarily. With this in mind, we aimed to host monthly virtual programs that allow members from across the state to actively participate.
-
We also place incredible importance on being together. This commitment to excellent programming and education extends to hosting in-person events bi-monthly in different regional hubs, providing members with diverse and enriching experiences.
-
SMPS Palmetto wants to focus on enhancing member participation by encouraging involvement in various committee positions, ensuring that every member has an opportunity to contribute their unique skills and insights and has a seat at the table.
-
We look for opportunities to celebrate the successes of our members, fostering a culture of recognition and support.
-
To further professional growth, a mentorship program is being initiated. Facilitating knowledge exchange and networking opportunities – we see value in bringing together marketers in different stages of their careers to help shepherd the next generation.
-
We are determined to support our members in obtaining CPSM certification, reinforcing our commitment to their continuous professional development.
Together, these goals underscore our dedication to creating a vibrant and inclusive SMPS community.
The big news in our chapter this year, is that South Carolina was chosen to host the annual Southeastern Regional Conference (SERC). In March, hundreds of SMPS’ers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, of course South Carolina, and beyond will converge in Greenville. From the picturesque landscapes along the Reedy River to the thriving arts and culinary scene, Greenville offers a unique setting for collaboration and networking. SMPS Palmetto’s own President-Elect, Elizabeth Dees, MBA, is serving as Conference Co-Chair and has planned a three-day event that will elevate and inspire our professional development.
I also want to ask for your firm’s invaluable support as a sponsor. By becoming a sponsor, you not only align your brand with our community but also gain exclusive visibility among our diverse and influential membership base. Your sponsorship will directly contribute to the development of insightful programs, engaging events, and essential resources that empower our members to thrive in the ever-evolving field of marketing professional services. Please visit our Sponsorship page to learn more.
I encourage each of you to actively participate, share your insights, and leverage the resources available through SMPS. Together, let's make 2024 a year of collective success, personal growth, and lasting connections.
Thank you for being an integral part of SMPS. Here's to a year filled with unparalleled opportunities!
Sincerely,

Rachel John
President, SMPS Palmetto
